Dogs for sale - Last Updated 30th June 2008
We are currently bringing on young labradors for the shooting season 2009, if you would like the opportunitey to pick a young labrador to be traned to your
shooting or lifestyle requirements please contact us.
Also, Springer and Cockers Spaniels sometimes available.
Our aim is to produce a sound honest gundog that easily fits into working and pet life. We prefer to run puppies on for individual owners as different people require different standards and levels for life with their new gundog. Some owners prefer their gundogs to live in the house and be part of day to day family life. If we know this we can introduce the young Gundog into the home environment. However if a dog has always lived in a kennel environment they can sometimes find it quite strange living in the house.
In the same way a gun would prefer a gundog to be rock steady on the peg so much so that they would prefer to tell the dog twice to retrieve a dead bird rather than be too eager on the end of his hand raring to go.
A rough shooter normally requires a Gundog to quater the ground in front of them. Most gundog trainers wouldn't allow a retriever to quarter in front of them like a spaniel, but if this is what you require, we can encourage a hunting pattern from the start of training.
We are happy to meet customers requirements and would be happy to train any breed of Gundog to the gun or for a country life. We feel it is essential that each gundog is well suited to its new owner and lifestyle, but if you were to choose a puppy that seemed ideal, but grew up to be a speed demon, but you required a steady plodder, we would be happy to keep the puppy with no further commitment from the potential new owner.
If this sounds appealing to you then the procedure is:-
Dogs can be trained to reach the following levels.
Basics.
Basics include walking on the lead, responding to name, sitting on command and play retrieving to hand.
Part trained
Part trained includes walking to heel on and off the lead, sitting on command using verbal and the whistle, staying on command, steady to a thrown dummy / tennis ball, starting to take hand signals, jumping obstacles, introduction to gun fire i.e starting pistol, introduction to water.
Fully trained
Fully trained includes walking to heel on and off the lead, sitting and staying within the company of other dogs working and around livestock, taking direction using hand signals, retrieving blind retrieves, stop whistle and recall whistle installed, retrieving from water and over obstacles, retrieving fur and feather and also under the gun.
